Backup and export
A backup is a snapshot of the device. You can keep it, compare against it, or use it to restore a state.
Full and partial backups
Section titled “Full and partial backups”Full backup copies everything the device allows. It is slow and large, and is the right choice before a risky test or a device reset.
Partial backup copies a selected subset, such as one app’s data or one category. It is faster and usually sufficient. A full backup of a 256 GB device is rarely needed to answer a question about one app.
Create a backup
Section titled “Create a backup”- Connect and unlock the device. Keep it unlocked until the backup finishes.
- Choose full or partial. For a partial backup, select what to include.
- Choose a destination with enough free space. A full backup can be close to the used storage on the device.
- Start the backup and do not disconnect the cable.
An interrupted backup is incomplete. If the device locks during a long backup, protected files can no longer be read.
Open a backup
Section titled “Open a backup”KeyMob can open an existing backup and list its contents.
Creating, opening and viewing backups are free. Browsing backup data, which means opening directories and reading individual files, requires VIP. See pricing.
Common uses
Section titled “Common uses”Before a destructive test. Back up a test device before you reset, restore or upgrade it.
Comparing releases. Back up before and after an upgrade, then compare the app’s data to see exactly what the migration changed.
Preserving a bug. A device in a broken state is evidence. Back it up before anyone restarts it.
Reusing a test state. Capture a hard-to-reach state once and restore it when needed, instead of recreating it manually.
Backups contain personal data
Section titled “Backups contain personal data”A device backup contains a person’s entire phone. It is the most sensitive data KeyMob produces.
- Back up only devices you own or are authorized to examine.
- Store backups encrypted, on an encrypted computer.
- Delete backups when the work is finished.
- Use a partial backup whenever it is enough.
The user agreement and privacy policy both apply.
