Device information
This page shows all the information the device reports about itself.
Available information
Section titled “Available information”| Field | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Name and model | Identifies the exact device model |
| UDID | Must be listed in a development provisioning profile before a build can be installed |
| Serial number | Used for warranty and origin checks |
| iOS version | The most common reason a bug appears “only on that phone” |
| Storage | Total and free space. A nearly full device fails installs and behaves unpredictably under memory pressure |
| Battery health | Current capacity compared with the original, and cycle count |
| Battery serial | Shows whether the battery is original |
| Chip and memory | The baseline for interpreting performance data |
| Network | Carrier, and whether Wi-Fi debugging is available |
The UDID is the field you will need most often. Development and Ad Hoc profiles list the devices they can be installed on by UDID. If the device is not listed, installing the IPA fails with a signature error that does not explain the cause.
Copy the UDID here and add it to the profile. You do not need a Mac or Xcode.
Check whether a device has been modified
Section titled “Check whether a device has been modified”Do this before adding a device to a test fleet, or when a bug appears on only one device:
- Compare the battery serial with the device serial. A replaced battery is not a problem in itself, but it shows the device has been opened.
- Compare the cycle count with the device’s age. A “nearly new” device with 800 cycles is not nearly new.
- Compare storage with the model. A capacity that does not match any official configuration is a strong warning sign.
- Compare the iOS version with Apple’s releases. A build number that Apple never released needs a closer look.
- Review installed profiles. An unexpected MDM or configuration profile can change how the device behaves.
No single check is conclusive. Together, they are usually enough to decide whether to include a device in test results.
Device actions
Section titled “Device actions”You can also perform two actions here:
- Restart the device.
- Rename the device, which makes it easier to tell identical devices apart.
Compare devices before comparing performance
Section titled “Compare devices before comparing performance”Before comparing two performance captures, compare the two devices. A different chip, memory size, iOS version, temperature or battery health can each make the comparison invalid. Record the device information with each capture.
