File manager

The file manager shows the parts of the device file system that a trusted computer can access, in a two-pane browser.

Area Contains
User files Documents shared by apps (the same files shown in the Files app), plus media
App containers An installed app’s Documents, Library and tmp directories
System files The readable parts of the system file tree
Log files Diagnostic and crash log directories, including entries also shown in the crash module
  • Download a file or an entire directory to your computer.
  • Upload a file from your computer to a writable location.
  • Create and delete files and directories.
  • Rename and move items on the device.

All of this works over USB, with no jailbreak and nothing installed on the device.

Verify what shipped. Check for a config file that survived an upgrade, a feature flag cached from an earlier session, or a database that migrated incorrectly. None of these are visible from outside the app.

Retrieve your app’s own log files. Many apps write logs to their Documents directory. You can download them without building an export feature.

Set up a test state. Upload a prepared database or test fixture into the app’s container to reproduce a hard-to-reach state on demand.

Check a download. When an asset arrives corrupted, inspect the actual file on the device.

Files in an app container are protected. Copying them as raw bytes produces encrypted data. KeyMob can decrypt an app’s data so that images, audio, video and configuration files are readable. See App data.

  • The device must be unlocked and trusted. Because of iOS data protection, some files cannot be read while the device is locked, with any tool.
  • You can see only what the device exposes to a paired computer. KeyMob does not bypass platform protections, so some parts of the system are not accessible.
  • Writing to system locations is generally not allowed. Attempting it can leave the device in a state that requires a restore.

An app container can hold messages, photos, location history and credentials. If the device belongs to a tester or customer, copy only the files you need and delete them when you are done. The user agreement states that KeyMob may be used only on devices you own or are authorized to examine.
