App management
Manage installed apps from your computer, without Xcode or a Mac.
App lists
Section titled “App lists”Switch between three lists:
- User apps: apps installed from the App Store or sideloaded
- System apps: Apple’s built-in apps
- Running processes: processes currently running
Each entry shows the display name, bundle identifier, version and install date.
Install an IPA
Section titled “Install an IPA”- Select the device.
- Click Install and choose the
.ipafile. - Wait for the installation to finish. The app appears on the Home Screen.
The build must be signed with a provisioning profile that includes this device. A development-signed IPA installs only on devices whose UDID is listed in the profile. To find the UDID, see Device information. To check installed profiles, see Profiles.
Ad Hoc and enterprise builds install the same way. App Store builds cannot be installed directly, because they are signed for App Store distribution only.
If installation fails
Section titled “If installation fails”| Symptom | Cause |
|---|---|
| Fails immediately | The signature does not include this device, or the profile has expired |
| Fails partway | Not enough free storage |
| Installs but does not launch | The developer certificate is not trusted. Trust it on the device under General → VPN & Device Management |
| “A newer version is installed” | The version or build number is lower than the installed one. Uninstall the app first |
Uninstall apps
Section titled “Uninstall apps”Uninstall one app, or select several and uninstall them together. This is useful for clearing old test builds. Uninstalling deletes the app’s container, so export any data you need first.
View app details
Section titled “View app details”For each installed app, you can view:
- Bundle identifier, version, build number and install date
- Requested permissions
- Container directories, which open directly in the file manager
- Whether the app is running
Start and stop apps
Section titled “Start and stop apps”You can launch or stop an app on the device. This is useful for:
- Measuring cold start. Stop the app, start a performance capture, then launch the app. Warm and cold launches are measured separately.
- Resetting a stuck app without handling the device.
